Fine art reproduction
We like to think of ourselves as the artwork scanning and fine art printing specialists, because some people come to us just wanting one service or the other. But when you put these two together (and add a few more steps) then we’re talking about a fantastic process called fine art reproduction, and that’s really our main game.
There really is an art to the process too. The artwork capture (getting that high resolution digitised file), the type of printer, the quality of paper used to print on as well as the ingenuity and patience of the person managing the process all combine to influence the quality of the reproduction you receive.
Because we are just a little obsessed with the details – here’s an overview of the fine art reproduction process at Cie-Elle:
STEP 1 – DIGITISE YOUR ARTWORK THROUGH HIGH RESOLUTION SCANNING
Our Cruse flatbed scanner is the most advanced scanning technology available in Australia, capturing artworks at over 800 megapixels and achieving a level of depth never before seen in a digitised file. In short, it’s pretty flash. With a massive table size, you can scan single or multiple artworks up to 1400 x 2200mm in a single pass. Read more about our artwork scanning service.
STEP 2 – IMAGE ADJUSTMENTS AND FILE PREPARATION
Here we apply colour targets, remove any damage, clean up backgrounds, remove or add signatures, size for editions.
STEP 3 – COLOUR MATCHING AND ARTWORK PROOFING
Essentially, we need to check and adjust the colour within the scanned or supplied file. We fine tune and tweak colours until a colour match is complete, using the best scanning targets, software and monitors to display and generate our ICC profiles. Most of the time we do this while we have the original artwork with us, so we have a direct reference when adjusting and matching the colours. There are actually 3 steps within this process of colour matching:
- Application of colour targets.
- Test strip printed and matched to the original. This is produced on the paper stock/material you have chosen for your fine art print. That way there’s no surprises, you will see first hand the colours and finish to expect in the final product.
- Multiple test strips printed plus artists proof for approval.
This is an important stage and sometimes a lengthy part of the process, however we have a colour correction option to fit every budget.
STEP 4 – PRODUCTION OF WORLD CLASS FINE ART PRINTS
You’ve got your print-ready file and selected your fine art material, now it’s time to get you that perfect fine art print, produced to museum-grade standards and longevity requirements. Happy days. Find out more about our fine art printing services.
